Lately we've been filling our days with various end-of-school activities. It always seems to surprise us how much the girls change from the start of a school year to the end. They'll be grown up before I know it I suppose.
Nora enjoys preschool so much that at the end of year picnic she refused to sit with us. She can apparently sit with Mom and Dad anytime.
Abby finished her first year of school last Tuesday. It's crazy to think how much she's grown, even in the last month she's gone from struggling to sound out words all the way to reading small books fluently with dramatic effect.
Her favorite morning activity this spring was to wake up early, and work on math problems on our white board while waiting for breakfast. Sometimes that kid is so much like her mother it cracks me up
To celebrate the start of summer we took a family trip to the Indiana Dunes, at every retaining pond we passed on the way the girls made sure to double check I hadn't just driven past our destination.
Once everyone was appropriately caked in sunscreen we hit the beach. We all played in the sand, the girls rolled in the sand, and mom even let the girls douse her with buckets of cold lake water.
Near the end I challenged the girls to climb a dune with me, Nora was up for it but Abby decided to hang back. After seeing Nora and I ascend and descend the dune safely Abby decided she wanted to give it a try so we made another trip. It was good fun, I'm especially impressed that Nora made the climb twice in a row; that kid has a powerful sense of determination.
I think we all had a great day, hopefully it will be the first of many good memories from this summer.
Not sure that it fits, but the girls spent the afternoon a while ago trying to hide from me and then scare me. Let's say their hiding technique could use some improvement.
