Abby and Nora have also started playing together a little bit. Nora has been paying more and more attention to Abby as she tears around the house. Though she's also becoming more sensitive to Abby's screams, there's more than one nap that's been interrupted by an, "Ahhhhhhh!".
Abby's treating Gingham more and more like Mom treats Nora. Here she is reading a bed time story to baby Gingham.
Most of us have been enjoying the change in the seasons this past week or two. Abby and I play outside most days when I get home from work, her favorite game is to swing together. She always says, "I want to go fast" but despite what she says I can't push her too fast otherwise I hear, "I want down!!". Dad is always playing too rough, or so I'm told.
The other day when we got home from church Kristin and Abby played in the puddles. Abby played a long time, eventually we had to drag her inside after maybe 10-15 minutes of splashing.
I've also been working on cleaning up the leaves left over from last fall. The city has another yard waste pickup day in the spring so I'm trying to get everything cleaned out before that. The other day Abby came out to give me a hand.
She actually put the gloves on herself.
As you can see it's hard rake when you have to keep trading with Abby, but for some reason Mom and Dad's rake always seems better than Abby's.
I've decided that I would really like to be able to get more housework done while Abby's awake so that I can use her naps to do things that I would like to do (like work on my ever-growing list of projects) or things that I really can't do with her around (like folding laundry - we're good as long as there are things to pull out of the basket and hand to me, but once those are gone she starts going for the things I've already folded and we just end up in a never-ending cycle). For the most part, it's working out pretty well. Abby really likes to help me with the cleaning, and she's loved cooking for quite awhile. The one thing that we haven't been able to do yet, though, is vacuum. She's just terrified of the vacuum. If I take it out of the closet she just starts to cry and run away from me. She's not even a big fan of seeing it when I open the closet to get out a coat. So I thought that maybe we could use a little desensitization therapy (thanks Psych 100!) to work her up to the vacuum.
Adam's grandparents gave us a little electric sweeper for Christmas a couple of years ago. So I started running that this morning and then asked Abby if she wanted to try holding it. She gave me a terrified look and told me that Gingham was a little bit scared. So I turned it off, and she informed me that Gingham was going to be a big, brave lion and let Abby hold the sweeper. She pushed it around for a few minutes and then asked me to turn it on. She then proceeded to run around with the sweeper for about 20 minutes, and only stopped because it was naptime. So maybe there's hope for the big vacuum in the near future. And it's nice to know that I learned at least one useful thing in college.
Everyone's sleeping in this morning so I thought I would post a quick update. There hasn't been too much going on in general. Abby's been feeling a little sick the last day or two, Nora has started to become very playful. She coo's and smiles a lot when you're playing with her.
Now for some pictures. Abby seems to be very concerned that Nora stays warm on cold days so she helps Mom with the blankets.
Abby's also been working on her fake smile. I'm not sure why she decided to work on it but now every time we try to take a picture she makes sure to fake smile.
