As proud parents we thought the world should be able to see these pictures. She changes every day.

Just Over One Month

tummyTime

Abigail's just over one month old now. Things are starting to settle down we think. She pretty much sleeps through the night and the days are falling into a pattern. Unfortunately that pattern involves a lot of crying but we're working on it.

Not too much has happened since we wrote last. Kristin graduated in December but she went through the ceremony this Spring, so we had some family over for that. Abigail was very good for most of the ceremonies.

Abigail also had her 4 week and 1 month birthdays. She's gotten a lot better at wriggling. The other night she managed to wriggle her way completely out of her sleeper. That wouldn't be too strange except that she did it without unzipping the sleeper and still managed to stay swaddled. We're not really sure how that happened.

Anyway, I know everyone's just looking for more pictures ...

Watching the World

mobile
Everyone told us that kids grow up so fast, but we're still constantly amazed at all of the new things Abigail does. Lately she's been so much more observant about the world around her. We discovered that she really likes straight lines. She'll just stare at partially-opened blinds, when you can see the light coming through. We colored a few stripes on an index card, and she will follow that card anywhere. You can get her to turn her head to follow it, and if you turn it so that it goes from horizontal to vertical or vice versa, she's so surprised and makes a surprised little face. She's also started noticing her mobiles. There's one on her swing that she's started watching the past few days, and we have another mobile that our landlord gave us as a baby present that Adam just put up above her bassinette today. The most exciting thing, though, is that she's started to smile at us a little bit. You never really know when it's going to come, or why, but it's so fun to see that big smile come over her face.

Our project right now is to teach Abigail to take a nap during the afternoon. It's been a little rough, but I think it might be getting better. I just can't stand to sit there in the living room and listen to her scream in her room, so I usually end up going in and picking her up. But I'm getting tougher (prompted in part by the realization that if she takes a nap then I can take a nap at the same time) and on both Friday and Saturday she slept for probably about two hours. Today hasn't been going too well - she's been in there for about an hour and she's still screaming - but I think we're at least making progress. I'm hoping by the end of next week we'll have it pretty much down.

We spent part of our economic stimulus check on a camera baby monitor that work through the wireless in the house so we can watch it on the computer. I'm not sure exactly how it works (if you're interested I'm sure Adam can tell you) but I know how to make it show up on the computer, which is all I really need to know. It's kind of fun to be able to watch Abigail while she's in her room, although hen I'm already feeling bad about hearing her scream it doesn't help to be able to see it. But it is fun to be able to watch her sleep during her nap without having to go in and risk waking her up.

Almost Three Weeks

bath1 Abigail is almost three weeks old now. Even when she's this young things change a lot in a week. She'll hold her head up a little, especially when you're holding her on your shoulder. Unfortunately she hasn't figured out how to put it down yet, so there are a lot of face plants.

She had her first full bath yesterday. It was a lot of fun for mom and dad, she says it was more like Chinese water torture. Really the pictures speak for themselves. She was so tired from all her screaming afterwards that she sleep from 9pm to 5am, which is a lot more sleep then we've gotten in a while.

Kristin is going through the graduation ceremony next weekend, so both grandparents will get a chance to see her again. It should be fun.
